Through which Lens…

I have been wearing glasses since the fourth grade. At one time, I wore glasses and braces, orthodontics, however that’s for another time.

Eyeglasses, a shape of glass or plastic to help me see. Not a monocol or a spectacle, a pair of eye glasses.

This tool for vision is on my nightstand and it’s the first thing I reach for in the morning and that last item I put away at night.

Over the years, I’ve realized the need to have a spare pair.

During the pandemic and teaching on ZOOM, I realized the desire for another pair of a different color.

Eyeglasses as defined by Meriam-Webster Eyeglasses Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster are to correct a defect in vision or to protect the eye.

Hmm, a defect or a form of protection?

I view my eyeglasses as a corrective measure.

I view my eyeglasses as a tool that enables me to see, clearly, via my eyes.

How do you view your eyeglasses or those of a friend, family member or stranger?

Artistically, I’ve begun to explore looking through the spectacles without them being on the bridge of my nose.

Carefully and a bit playfully, I’m looking through the lens from a different perspective and the result is a tad creative and one that I can not see until I put my glasses back on the bridge of my nose and proceed to look through the viewfinder or the photo section of my phone.

My challenge to you, is to carefully remove your glasses, and take a gander, a glance, or a glimpse.

Share what you see through a photo, words, a song, a painting or whatever suits your fancy to post, respectfully.

Then, look around and see those students with their new glasses, a new pair or new as a lens wearer. Guide them to see not as a defect, as a different perspective.

Thank you for engaging in this play and for pondering eyeglasses with me.

Sincerely,

Hope
